When should you replace a consumer unit?

A consumer unit, often still called a fuseboard, distributes electricity around the property and disconnects circuits when a fault occurs. Age alone does not automatically mean that a unit is unsafe, but it does mean its condition, protective measures and suitability should be assessed properly.
